How Shiproom researches product comparisons

Comparisons are useful only when a reader can tell which statements were checked, when they were checked, and where judgment begins. This is the standard used on Shiproom’s alternatives pages.

Primary sources first

Product capabilities, plan names, limits, pricing, trials, and integrations are checked against the competitor’s own website, pricing page, documentation, or public repository. Every published comparison includes its source links and a checked date. Search snippets and third-party roundups may reveal language or products worth investigating, but they do not establish a product fact when a primary source is available.

Facts and inferences stay separate

A statement such as “the monthly Standard plan is $50” is a dated fact. A statement such as “better for an agency running formal client approval” is an editorial inference from documented features and positioning. We write both plainly, but do not present the second as measured performance or universal truth.

No manufactured wins

  • If a competitor has a permanent free plan, the comparison says so.
  • Shiproom is described as currently free, not permanently or forever free.
  • Unknown, beta, and unverified capabilities remain labelled that way.
  • A narrower Shiproom workflow is not described as a broader feature advantage.
  • No rating, market-share, customer-count, or performance claim is invented.

Why there are fewer pages than products

A new comparison page must answer a distinct buying question with enough first-party evidence to be useful. We do not create near-duplicate pages for every keyword or competitor name. Tools that are adjacent, rapidly changing, or insufficiently documented stay on the alternatives hub until a deeper page would add real decision value.

Corrections and rechecks

Pricing and capability claims are snapshots, not permanent truths. Before a meaningful content release, source links and high-impact facts are rechecked. If you find a factual error, email [email protected] with the source. Corrections should update the page’s checked date and the internal evidence ledger.
